Adobe Flash Player problems with fullscreen mode in Firefox and Ubuntu 9.04

Since I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04 (a.k.a. Jaunty Jackalope) I found some problems when watching videos via Flash media player 10 in fullscreen mode.

After doing a small research the *only* solution that really solved the issue is explained in this thread

What you have to do is easy:

  1. sudo mkdir /etc/adobe
  2. sudo nano /etc/adobe/mms.cfg
  3. Paste “OverrideGPUValidation=true” (without quotation marks)
  4. Restart Firefox.

I hope this solves the problem.

I am looking forward to the next Adobe Flash Player release :-)

thanks for sharing, but if you think from the average computer user point of view, this is probably the reason of why Linux is still not taking off as a personal computer operative system. Ask any average user what “sudo” is and you’ll see ;-)

The only problem that I have is when I use 2 monitors… (I have a notebook). When I switch the video to full screen this shows the content in the second monitor in full screen mode but with the same size… the rest of the screen in black. This happend to me with or without your trick.

Do you know a method to avoid this?

Thanks.

Actually I did not have this problem with flash but a trick could be to use (if you have compiz enabled) the windows key to zoom in/out into your desktop while pressing the mouse wheel…

Thanks for solution, but I have a question on # 3 do I write on the terminal ” paste Override …” or do I paste “OverrideGPUValidation=true” only this line If that is the case, where do I paste it. thank you very much.

Hi Steven,
the solution is to paste “OverrideGPUValidation=true” in the file /etc/adobe/mms.cfg

Cheers

Thanks for your reply, I was able to paste it, but neither can I save it nor can exit, it says that closing the window will kill the process. thanks in advance.
